The other day I asked if you guys would be interested in a first trimester blog post and I got so many positive responses! I just entered my second trimester a couple weeks ago and looking back I feel like the last three months flew by! I am excited to share with you guys how we found out we were pregnant, how I have been feeling, what foods I have been craving, and my favorite products/apps so far!
To give you a little background, Kevin and I originally talked about starting to try for a baby in December, but then we started to worry that it could take us a while to get pregnant so we decided to give it a go at the end of September. We were very fortunate to get pregnant right away, but I was also a little shocked. It was a Sunday and we had just got back from San Francisco where we spent the weekend. While we were at the SF airport I told Kevin that I felt different and that I thought I could be pregnant. I didn’t feel sick or anything, but just different (it’s hard to explain the feeling). I didn’t tell Kevin I was going to do this, but right when we got home I ran upstairs to take a pregnancy test and there it was…the words “pregnant.” Like I said, I was in shock but so incredibly happy and excited all at the same time! I sat there for a couple minutes to take it all in and then ran downstairs to find Kevin. I showed him the pregnancy test and I think he was in shock too but a second later he gave me a huge hug and he was also so excited! It was such a special moment that we both will never forget.
I have to be honest I have heard horror stories about some people’s first trimester and how sick they were, which made me really nervous. Luckily, I didn’t have any sickness except for the occasional feeling of nausea when I was hungry. As long as I had snacks on hand I felt great! In the first month or two I definitely craved carbs and greasy foods (Chick-fil-A and bean and cheese burritos were favorites) and the thought of chicken and veggies sounded horrible. One weird craving that I had for a week or so was Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal (I hadn’t had it since I was a kid) and I made Kevin go out one night to get it for me. Another thing that I noticed in my first couple of months was that I was overly tired. I would sleep 8-9 hours a night and in the middle of the day I could barely keep my eyes open and would need to come home and nap for 2 hours after work. Towards the last month of my first trimester I started to get my energy back, was able to workout again, and I was back to eating my usual healthy meals.
As far as products and apps go, I have a few recommendations that I have been really enjoying so far that I wanted to share with you! I know I only have a tiny bump right now, but I have been using this Skin and Senses stretch mark cream to prevent them as I continue to grow. It actually turns into an oil once it gets on your hands and the smell is amazing! I like to rub it on my stomach, lower back, sides, and boobs. I have been using it every night when I get out of the shower, but will probably start to use it twice a day as I get further along. I am also taking this prenatal vitamin everyday and I just started sleeping with this pregnancy pillow that is amazing and has over 7k reviews! Two apps that I use on a weekly basis are Baby Center and What To Expect. On Baby Center you can follow your birth month forum and see what other mamas at your same stage of pregnancy are experiencing. You can also ask questions and interact with the community. What I love about the What To Expect app is that there is a weekly video of what is happening with your baby and they look so realistic! If you guys have any other apps (or even books) that you love please let me know as I am also new to all of this!
I hope you guys enjoyed my first pregnancy post (ahh!) and I plan to keep them coming! If there is anything baby related that you would like to see let me know and I can work on a post. I am so excited to take you all along on this exciting journey! Have a great week!
