Happy Thursday girls! As many of you know, I got hair extensions a couple weeks ago! I have received a ton of questions about my specific extensions so I wanted to put a post together where I answer them. For those of you that live in San Diego, I went to Erin at Southside Salon (you can check out her Instagram here). I am so pleased with how my extensions look and feel and could not be happier! Here is a before and after:
Erin was kind enough to answer some of the most popular questions that I received:
Question: What type of extensions did you use?
Erin: I used keratin tipped extensions. Keratin is the protein your hair is made out of! It’s broken down into wax form so i can heat the bond, roll it around the small section of hair and allow it to cool and harden.
Question: How long are the extensions?
Erin: We used 20” keratin tipped extensions.
Question: How long do the extensions last?
Erin: The extensions last 2-4 months depending on your hair (density, health, etc.) and your at home care of the extensions.
Question: What does the maintenance look like?
Erin: Maintenance can seem daunting, but it’s pretty simple. Most importantly, make sure to keep conditioner and oils off the bonds so they don’t slip prematurely. But don’t hesitate to put aragon oil on the mids to ends! It helps keep the hair hydrated and healthy looking! You also need to occasionally go through your hair and separate the bonds. The heat of your scalp can slightly heat the bonds, causing them to stick together. All you need to to is gently separate them with your fingers. Lastly, before sleeping or swimming, gently braid to hair to help prevent the bonds from tangling.
Question: Can you color your hair with them in?
Erin: You can absolutely color your hair with them in! The only thing you need to be careful of is lightening your hair. Lightener will disintegrate the bond. As long as it’s kept off the bond, you’re good to go!
