You guys may have seen on Instagram Stories that I recently got my brows microbladed! Once I put it out there, I received SO many questions about the process so I wanted to share my experience with you!
For those of you who don’t know what microblading is, it is a semi-permanent tattoo that gives you the perfect brow shape and fulness. The pigment isn’t applied as deep into the skin as with a conventional tattoo, so that is why it is semi-permanent.
I got mine done in Orange County by Sunny An and I am so happy with the results! If you do not live in Southern California I would recommend doing a ton of research before going to someone and you can even ask for specific examples of their work. For example, Sunny had a lot of brunettes on her Instagram so I asked her to send me an example of a blonde, which really helped me visualize how my brows would look.
Here are some FAQ’s that I have been getting:
How much does it cost?
The price can range depending on who you go to, but I would say anywhere from $400-$1,000.
How long does it last?
Microblading should last anywhere from 1-2 years depending on skin your type.
How long does it take?
The first session takes about 2 hours. The first hour of my procedure consisted of numbing my brows with a cream and Sunny took her time drawing out my brow shape. She uses a tool to make sure that both brows are symmetrical. my actual microblading procedure took about an hour.
Can you see the shape before starting?
Yes, before Sunny drew the shape out, we talked about what I was looking for and then after she drew the shape I was able to look at them and make any changes. Keep in mind, the outline looks a lot thicker than they will actually be!
Is it painful?
If you get the numbing cream you don’t really feel much (or at least I didn’t). There were a few spots on the tail of my brows that were sensitive, but Sunny was able to apply a little more numbing cream, which helped. Overall, I did not think the experience was painful.
What steps do you have to take after the procedure?
When the procedure is finished, your brows will look a lot darker than they will look after they have healed. For the first couple of days I was told to avoid water on my brows and Sunny gave me an ointment and instructed me to apply it twice a day for a week. After four days I started to notice a little scabbing, which is completely normal and then on day seven my brows seemed to be healed and a lighter in color.
Is there any upkeep?
After five weeks it is recommended that you go back for a touchup because often times there may be a few spots where you want to add a little more. Other than that, I go about my routine as normal and I do not have to touch my brows, which is so nice!
Would you do it again?
Yes! Now that I have microbladed my brows I can’t imagine not having them done! I used to have to fill in my brows every morning and now I don’t have to touch them!
